Beijing - Day 2 March 27th

We have a guide and her name is Wendy. She really knows a lot about the history of China. She is very nice. She will be our guide while we are in Beijing.

Today we went to the Imperial Summer Palace.  We saw men with water brushes who were practicing their caligraphy on the pavement. Wendy told us it was a form of meditation.

water writing at the summer palace The ancient Chinese believe that evil spirits have no knees and can only walk in a straight line.threshold To keep the bad spirits out of the house they put a tall threshold in the doorway so the spirits couldn't get through without knees. The taller the threshold was, the higher the ranking of the family. They also made bridges that were curved like a snake, to prevent the evil spirits from going across.

After we went to the Summer Palace we went to a pearl market. I saw a man open a fresh water oyster. There were about 20-30 pearls in that oyster; I got to keep 2 of them. I also got a little pearl necklace. It is beautiful.

We went to an acrobatic show before dinner. The acrobats could fit 13 people on 1 bicycle! One man stood on his head on top of 11 chairs!
