Hangzhou - Day 13 April 7th
Today
we went to the Ling Yin Buddhist temple. We have a
new guide
named Molly. On the way to the temple we had to drive though the west
lake area and we saw lots of weddings. We even saw double weddings. The
weather in Hangzhou is lovely, perfect for weddings and outdoor
activities. Outside the temple people were burning incense in large fires to honor the Buddha. The temple was very crowded, but worth the visit. We saw Buddhas carved in the rocks. We even took a picture of Gorden standing in front of the happy Buddha, he is a happy Buddha himself. Mary and my dad, who are both business people, touched the foot of the financial Buddha. Molly told us it would bring them good luck with their business. We saw a golden 85 foot tall Buddha with a 15 foot ear. Molly told us that the hand gesture means he is teaching or speaking, not that he is flicking mosquitoes. The gesture is the middle finger touching the thumb. There was also a temple of 500 monks, all with different expressions and personalities. |
