After ten years of successful operation, the SAGE system is now freely available on the internet in hopes that it can be reached by more people world-wide.

Using SAGE II requires access to the internet; something many burn centers and emergency rooms may not have available today. I predict this will change in the future.

I would like to see SAGE II develop as a usable website, instead of reverting back to the more traditional paradigm of a stand-alone program that users install and run on their own machines. There is disagreement, even amongst ourselves, about whether this strategy will work, but I'd like to give it a try and see if people feel it will work for them.

I see several advantages to this web-based model. Everyone will automatically be using the most up-to-date version of the program all the time. System support issues will be greatly reduced because most functioning internet machines can access and run the program. By being always available to everyone, referring facilities may be able to provide more accurate and consistent injury assessments to the burn team prior to transferring patients.

SAGE II operates locally on the users' browser and does not send any patient information back to the internet. This eliminates some potential internet issues concerning ownership and control of medical record information.

I would like to thank Dr. Carlos E. De los Santos for his help in making the Spanish version of SAGE II possible. He has generously provided his time and effort to carefully translate the complete SAGE II program, and web site, into Spanish. His enthusiasm, suggestions, and support have created a valuable expansion of the SAGE II web site. Thank you Carlos!

Feedback from the burn care community will determine how the SAGE II website develops, so please send any thoughts about how SAGE II might work for you.
