DISCLAIMER:
The SAGE II system is designed only as an estimating tool and relies on
subjective input from the user. Therefore it cannot be guaranteed
to provide accurate representation of surface areas.
Sage II operates locally on the user's browser and does not send any patient
information back to the internet. This eliminates many potential internet
issues concerning ownership and control of medical record information.
SAGE II FEATURES:
- Freely available on the internet
- Calculates age-adjusted estimates for TBSA, partial, deep,
and user-selected palettes, in percentages and cm^2.
- Calculates cm^2 and % burn for 33 body areas
- Provides Parkland fluid resuscitation estimates for TBSA > 20%
SAGE II provides consistent wound assessments, as well as a convenient way to
graphically document wound and treatment areas. Users have found SAGE II
also works well for estimating coverage requirements when planning and ordering
specialized dressings and artifical skin products.
RUNNING SAGE II WITH YOUR BROWSER:
You have probably reached this login page because you are running an older version of
Microsoft Internet Explorer. We strongly recommend that you see the
SAGE II Documentation page for helpful information about
the limitations of your browser working with SAGE II.
After entering your login information and pressing an [Enter] button above,
the SAGE II application will open in a new window - There may be a delay of several
moments as your browser first loads Java, and then opens the SAGE II program,
so please be patient.
This browser window will remain open as well and will be re-directed to our feedback
page - please send us any questions or comments you may have. If you are a first-time
user we strongly recommend that you see the
SAGE II Documentation
page for helpful information about how to create a diagram.
If you don't see the SAGE II application come up after a minute or so, please
e-mail me
so I can help you get SAGE II up and running.
Using "cookies", your browser will remember your medical center name and email address
so you only have to enter a user name each time you return to use SAGE II.
Native Java
SAGE II is written for Java 1.1 runtime engines (JRE).
Currently only recent browser versions (Netscape 4.x and MSIE 4.x/5.x)
have a native JRE that works well with SAGE II.
You have probably reached this login page because
your browser is not capable of using SAGE II in Native mode.
See the browser table
for more version-specific information.
Netscape 4.7x is freely available for downloading from
Netscape's website.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x/5.00 prints the inital blank SAGE II diagram,
ignoring all input from the user. MSIE 5.01 (11/17/99) does print the current
diagram as displayed. MSIE 5.01 is freely available for downloading from
Microsoft's website.
Some print drivers behave oddly when printing SAGE diagrams in Netscape. If you are
experiencing problems with the printout, try using a different printer driver. I've found
the generic "HP laserjet" driver, available on most WIN9x installations, does print
SAGE II diagrams properly with many different printers.
If you are having trouble getting SAGE II to run or print properly, please
contact me
for help. Please include the type and version of your web browser, and the printer/driver combination you are using.
Java plug-in 1.22 from Sun Microsystems
A plug-in available from Sun Microsystems runs a 1.2 java
runtime engine (JRE) independent of the browser's native JRE.
Using this plug-in is currently the only way SAGE II will run in older browsers.
see the browser table for version-specific information.
If your browser doesn't have this plug-in already, SAGE II will automatically retreive it for
free from the Sun Microsystems website. The one-time installation process consists of two steps:
- Download the ~5 megabyte self-installing plug-in file from Sun Microsystems
- Run the downloaded, self-installing file
These steps will install the JRE plug-in on your computer.
SAGE II status:
While most of the features of the original SAGE program are now available in SAGE II, some are still
in the process of being converted to java. Please check here for notice of recent changes.
